OUR CHURCH


First Baptist Church Heber Springs is on a mission to love God, serve others, and reach the lost. We are looking for a male Family Pastor who not only meets the biblical pastoral qualifications outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1–7 and Titus 1:6–9 and who adheres to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, but who is also excited about leading worship that reflects the church’s overall mission and vision.

First Baptist is a resource healthy church located right in downtown Heber Springs, Arkansas at 201 N 4th Street. Our sanctuary has room to comfortably seat 300 church members. We are also blessed with a 125-student daycare, a large fellowship hall, and a full-service kitchen. There is a separate 2,500 sqft youth building with a kitchen, classrooms, and worship center that can seat 100. Additionally, the church owns a 25-passenger bus and 15-passenger van. Today, First Baptist Heber Springs has an average attendance of 190 people at Sunday Worship Service. We have a large, longstanding, and dedicated volunteer network who serve passionately each week serving meals and guiding the children’s ministry.

 

THIS POSITION


Are you a highly motivated, goal oriented, pastor who is seeking the opportunity to grow a resource rich youth group? Are you looking to demonstrate your leadership by also overseeing a children’s ministry?

As the Family Pastor at First Baptist Church Heber Springs, you will have a hybrid opportunity to lead both the youth group (80%) and be the visionary lead of a team of children ministry volunteers (20%). You will become an integral part of this community and its future. This position requires an energetic leader, unchained from the desk as the expectation is to attend school events, student lunches, lead Bible camp expeditions, and create a ministry where kids actively invite their friends. A successful candidate will convert Wednesday guests, to Sunday regulars and tomorrow’s disciples.

 

JOB TASKS:

  • STUDENT MINISTRY LEADER (60%)
    • Coordinate and oversee all aspects of Student Ministry including, but not limited to, creating policies, hosting and preparing lessons for midweek gathering, chaperoning camps and youth trips,  and attending other special events to lead students to maturity in Jesus.
    • Recruit and train adult volunteers to serve in the Student Ministry.
    • Train students in methods of defending the Christian faith.
  • SHEPHERD (10%)
    • Encourage and equip parents to make disciples in their homes.
    • Network with Heber Springs School staff, students, and parents and connect them to our church.
    • Attend a minimum of one lunch per week with students in their schools.
  • STAFF MEMBER (10%)
    • Attend regular staff meetings and discipleship staff meetings and work well with the staff to advance the mission of the church.
    • Develop and administer the annual Student Ministry budget.
  • CHILDREN MINSTRY ORGANIZER (20%)
    • Set the vision, standards, and leadership for a team of dedicated children ministry volunteers.
    • Guide vacation bible school planning and execution.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, preferably with a complimentary major/minor to enhance ministry to students
  • A follower of Arminianism theology, who supports the free will decision of salvationA follower of Jesus Christ, exhibiting a growing relationship and spiritual maturity
  • Called to ministry with a life aligned to the biblical mandates for leaders found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9.

  •  An excellent communicator who agrees with and teaches in accordance with the Baptist Faith & Message 2000
  •  Can clearly articulate the Gospel of Jesus
  •  A self-motivated and dynamic leader, capable of casting, imparting and following a vision for ministry, while adjusting to a changing environment
  •  Possess relational skills with students, parents, and staff
  •  One who possesses basic administrative and organizational skills, discipline, and focus
  • Seminary education preferred but not required

ABOUT HEBER SPRINGS


Heber Springs (population ~7,000) is a resort community located on the shores of one of the most popular lakes in Arkansas, Greers Ferry Lake. It resides approximately 75 minutes north of Little Rock, 1 hour NE of Conway and 40 minutes NW of Searcy.  The community boasts a Sandy Beach, premium fishing along the Red River, hiking/biking trails, natural waterfalls, and a variety of dining and entertainment options. Heber Springs schools are rated in the top 20% nationally according to US News and have a low student to teacher ratio of 8:1. High school athletics are consistently competitive with the 4A football program often reaching the state playoffs while the track program has multiple state championships.

 

BENEFITS & COMPENSATION


The target base salary range for this position is very competitive and reflective of the “dual hat” nature of the role: 80% Youth Pastor, 20% Children’s Ministry Leader. The compensation package includes vacation time, sick time, life insurance, and health insurance. Individual pay is determined by a number of factors including experience, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. Reasonable relocation expenses will be covered.
