The Pastor provides spiritual and pastoral leadership
and care to the congregation of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and the local
community. The Pastor will be the spiritual Shepard of the church. The Pastor
leads and ministers to the church so that it might fulfill its purpose of “Loving
God, Loving Others and Serving the World” for the glory of God and His
Kingdom. The Pastor leads the church in primary areas of Worship, Education,
Discipleship, Outreach, Evangelism, and Administration. His duties will include
preaching, teaching, visiting the sick and bereaved, counseling, administering
the church ordinances, and leading and developing the church staff and
volunteers.
The Pastor is a biblical position of authority described in the Bible commonly as
an ‘overseer”. While a Pastor may be perceived as working just one day of the
week, the reality of a Pastor’s job is much more involved with his congregation
and church growth.
Recognizing that Christianity is not a system of doctrines, but a personal
relationship with the Living God, and recognizing the Holy Bible as the inspired Word of God, we then
rely on the Holy Bible as the basis for any statement of faith. As a general statement of our faith we
accept the tenets outlined by the “Baptist Faith and Message” as adopted by the Southern Baptist
Convention, 2000.
