Associational Mission Strategist

Position Summary
The Associational Mission Strategist serves as the principal catalytic leader, pastoral
encourager, and strategic partner for member churches within the association. This role is
designed to equip churches to fulfill the Great Commission through collaboration, contextual
ministry, and kingdom-minded leadership.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Vision and Strategy Development
• Lead the association in developing a unifying vision aligned with the Great
Commission
• Conduct assessments of spiritual and missional health across churches and
communities
• Promote innovation and contextualization in local missions and evangelism
initiatives
2. Church Support and Encouragement
• Provide pastoral support to church leaders through encouragement, mentoring,
and prayer
• Assist churches with conflict resolution, leadership transitions, and revitalization
processes
• Guide and support church planting efforts and new ministry initiatives
3. Facilitation of Cooperation
• Promote unity and collaborative ministry among member churches
• Organize joint training events, mission projects, and leadership gatherings
• Foster relationships across generational and cultural lines within the association
• Connect member churches to ABSC and SBC events, training, resources, and
reporting tools—including the Annual Church Profile—while respecting the
autonomy of each church and the association
4. Leadership Development
• Identify and develop current and future ministry leaders
• Facilitate access to training, coaching, and ministry networks
• Connect churches to seminary, missionary, and lay development resources
5. Missional Engagement
• Mobilize churches for contextual outreach in their local communities
• Coordinate mission partnerships at local and global levels
• Serve as a strategic missionary leader within the associational context
6. Administration and Stewardship
• Supervise associational staff and manage operational activities
• Oversee budgets, reports, and communication with the Executive Committee
• Represent the association in denominational, civic, and ecumenical settings as
appropriate
• Partner with the Arkansas Baptist State Convention and Southern Baptist
Convention to channel denominational initiatives, resources, and information to
member churches through the association
Required Qualifications
Spiritual Qualifications
• Mature and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
• Commitment to the Baptist Faith and Message (2000)
• Deep understanding of Southern Baptist church operations and mission
Leadership Qualifications
• Proven leadership experience in church or other ministry settings
• Demonstrated ability to lead through influence and collaboration
• Strategic thinking capabilities with passion for missions and church health
Relational Qualifications
• Strong interpersonal and pastoral care skills
• High emotional intelligence and approachable demeanor
• Respected across diverse church and community settings
Administrative Qualifications
• Proficiency in organizational management, budgeting, and communication
• Familiarity with nonprofit and church governance structures
Performance Evaluation
The Associational Mission Strategist will receive regular (at least annual) evaluations from the
Associational Administrative Team based on:
• Progress toward strategic objectives
• Engagement and health of member churches
• Leadership development and support outcomes
• Effectiveness in mission mobilization and cooperation
About This Role
The Associational Mission Strategist serves as a mission strategist, trusted shepherd, and
connector among churches. This position is essential in leading gospel-centered
transformation in local and global mission fields within a post-Christian cultural context.
