PURPOSE

The Student Pastor’s primary responsibility is to oversee the continued development and management of the Student ministry at New Hope Fellowship, and to oversee the overall spiritual health of the Student ministry, through the recruiting and developing of small group leaders, the care and shepherding of existing small group leaders, and the continued development and improvement of the student ministry. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, highly relational leader who has a strong sense of ownership over areas of responsibility, a vision for maximizing the student and family experience, as well as a passion for discipling students and leaders through biblical community.

HOURS

The Student Pastor is a salaried role. Though hours will vary, they are generally Monday - Thursday from 9am - 5pm. For Wednesdays hours will differ (10am start time) and during sports seasons hours may vary to accommodate attending student sporting events, speaking at Pep Rallies/FCA, and meeting with students. Seasons such as Easter and Christmas, or planned, large-scale events may require additional days and/or hours.

 

COMPENSATION

Commensurate with knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience. New Hope offers a weekly salary, medical health insurance, 10% retirement, as well as paid time off each year.

 

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the execution of New Hope’s vision and strategic objectives as a member of the leadership team.
  • Cast a compelling vision for the student ministry within New Hope’s strategy. A discipleship process that leads students into an ever deepening walk with Christ.
  • Execute the recruiting, training and development, coaching, shepherding, and appreciation of Student Ministry leaders.
  • Develop and oversee the spiritual health of the Student ministry and individual student small groups.
  • Visit student small groups for observation, mentoring, and relationship building opportunities.
  • Be the primary teacher for the student ministry.
  • Develop a community experience for students that helps them grow spiritually and encourages family involvement with New Hope.
  • Develop a yearly promotion plan for New Hope Student Ministry including internal communication to the church body, as well as external communication.
  • Maintaining parent communication through email, social media, and newsletters to ensure families are aware of all New Hope Student Ministry activities.
  • Plan and coordinate outreach for students to engage with one another.
  • Engage with students in the community outside of Wednesday Night opportunities. This includes but is not limited to, school visits, pep rally and FCA appearances, attendance, speaking, and chaplain roles for school sports, attendance of student extra curriculars to build relationships with students and families.
  • Planning and participation in community outreach opportunities.
  • Planning and execution of annual summer camp/mission opportunities including: lodging, transportation, fundraising, marketing promotion, and leader involvement.
  • Annual planning and execution of DNOW weekend for students.
  • Planning and coordination of summer activities for students, leaders, and families.
  • Focuses on making disciples who will be equipped to face their college years.
  • Incorporate training opportunities for parents and youth.
  • Develop a student leadership team.
  • With help from the Lead Pastor, help develop a discipleship process from new believers to mature Saints.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the weekly staff planning and strategy meetings.
  • Participate in the execution of Sunday morning services.
  • Participate in the planning and coordination of church wide events.
  • The coordination of youth specific activities at church wide events.
  • Oversee the creation and management of the student ministry budget and be able to provide insight and accountability to the elders for future budgeting of the ministry.
  • Oversee the creation and management of annual ministerial and personal goals, under the approval of the Lead Pastor.
  • Upkeep of volunteer background checks and obtaining background checks for new volunteers.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervision responsibility for giving direction and guidance to volunteers.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required and seminary degree preferred.
  • Be able to pass a background check.

 

EXPERIENCE

  • 1-5 years’ experience in vocational ministry, preferably in a student ministry capacity, and a proven track record of recruiting, developing, and coaching leaders. Related post-graduate degree preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE

  • In-depth understanding in the area of student ministry and leader development.
  • A passion for reaching every student with the gospel and the ability to competently communicate the gospel to students.
  • Familiar with or at least a willingness to learn church database and scheduling system.
  • Proficient working knowledge of and ability to use various office software including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word and Mac Pages, Excel, Powerpoint and Mac Keynote, Outlook and other file sharing systems, such as OneDrive and Microsoft Teams.
  • Have an understanding and full conviction of our statement of faith.
  • Be a person of godly character that lives out what they believe.
  • Have the maturity and confidence to receive feedback.

  • Ability to effectively manage volunteers in areas such as: selection, development, coaching, motivation, and performance.
  • Ability to receive regular constructive coaching and mentoring, and to put it to use.
  • Ability to adjust and adapt to the growing needs of student ministry, as well as the growing needs of New Hope.
  • Excellent leadership skills necessary to appropriately influence people to achieve a desired outcome. Encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to have crucial conversations that shepherd and spiritually guide the New Hope body.
  • Ability to plan, manage, and report budgets proficiently.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to exercise independent thinking and initiative.
  • Ability to deal with complex situations or issues and make effective, timely and appropriate decisions.
  • Excellent organizational skills: ability to multi-task and manage a variety of tasks.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
